Vulnerable Adult Protection in Suffolk
The Learning Industries’ Protection of Vulnerable Adults e-learning package is being adapted for delivery across the county of Suffolk. The package has been purchased by Suffolk County Council Social Services to support the delivery of training on adult abuse and referral procedures to 27000 public sector staff within the authority area.
The e-learning package provides generic awareness training on the issues of adult abuse, categories of abuse and abuse indicators and will be customised to provide detailed guidance on the interagency policy and referral procedures in use within the Suffolk region.
Suffolk County Council Adult Safeguarding Services, headed by Bill Nicol, have a well developed adult protection policy and deliver a successful programme of training for front-line staff, managers and adult abuse investigators. The interagency Vulnerable Adult Protection Committee, established in 2000 has been successful in raising awareness of the issue and increasing the number of referrals from 154 in 2002/3 to 489 on 2004/5.
The e-learning package will be integrated into the existing training programme to enable essential training to be delivered to a wider audience in a flexible and convenient format.
