Micro-site for Industrial Symbiosis

The Materials Action Programme – Industrial Symbiosis (MAP-IS) project aims to reduce waste by facilitating the exchange and reuse of unwanted materials and by-products between businesses, industries and sectors. Essentially, one organisation’s waste products become another organisation’s useful resource.

The MAP-IS project, funded by the Welsh Assembly Government is being run by the Wales Environment Trust. The project will promote industrial symbiosis and deliver part of its service via the web but also needs to integrate its provision with that of other public sector projects being managed by the Trust. The projects website is therefore being created as a ‘micro-site’ under the main Wales Environment Trust website.

The Learning Industries’ Content Management System (CMS) supports the creation of micro-sites. Micro-sites provide an independent web presence for a product or service, whilst linking closely to the overarching corporate website and other micro-sites within the same domain. The sites are administered via a common management interface, which can share and interlink content within those sites.

The MAP-IS micro-site is now being developed to provide an introduction to Industrial Symbiosis, to market the project and its services and to disseminate resources to registered service users. The micro-site will share news, events and case studies with the main corporate website, enabling administrators to avoid the need to duplicate information across sites.
