Patient Group Directions e-Learning

The States of Jersey Health and Social Services Department (HSSD) have commissioned an e-learning package to assist in the first major roll out of Patient Group Directions (PGDs) on the island.

Due to differences in the legislative process, the use of PGDs on Jersey has not been as widespread as in England. A small number of specific PGDs have been in place for a number of years, to enable the administration of certain drugs, in specialised areas of practice. However, the island is only now about to implement the first organisation-wide PGDs covering common clinical requirements.

Learning Industries worked with Jersey HSSD last year, to produce and implement an e-learning package to support the rollout of their new In-Patient Medication Chart. This project proved very successful, providing effective training, providing evidence of the delivery of the training and the attainment of individual users for governance and risk management purposes, and also by raising general ICT skill levels within the organisation.

The Patient Group Directions e-Learning package will be implemented as a blended learning solution; providing generic training on the purpose of PGDS, the PGD development process, the supervision of PGDs on individual wards, and the use of individual PGDs by nursing staff. This will be supported by the delivery of specific knowledge and MCQs on individual PGDs through the organisations existing Policy Publishing system.
