Coventry and Warwickshire In-Patient Prescribing

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire

University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust have commissioned a customised version of the Learning Industries’ Prescribing and Administration e-Learning package; to provide training to clinical staff on the correct use of the Trust’s In-Patient Prescription Sheet (drug chart).

The e-learning package will illustrate the requirements for the completion of the Trust’s In-patient Prescription Sheet, in both the prescription and administration of medicines. The package will demonstrate the application of the medicines policy, describe appropriate procedures and regulations and will highlight aspects of good practice, for prescribing and administering drugs.

In addition the package will highlight current medicines management issues being encountered within the Trust; including specific requirements for prescribing antibiotics and the recording and administration of missed doses.

Finally the package will illustrate common prescribing error and their potential consequences, using real-life examples.

The package will be based upon the existing Learning Industries’ In-Patient Medication Prescribing and Administration e-Learning package, which will be customised to reflect the Coventry and Warwickshire drug chart, medicines code, local policies and procedures and corporate identity.

The package will be installed within the Learning Industries’ e-Learning Administration System, which will enable managers to monitor the progress and attainment of individual users as they progress through the e-learning course.

This project follows on from the successful application of this e-learning package in a wide range of other Trusts across England and Wales, as well as in Jersey and Australia. Learning Industries are also currently developing an e-learning package on Patient Group Directions which will broaden the scope of available courses within the medicines management area.
