description:

The Welsh language has equal legal status with the English language within public life in Wales and public bodies have an obligation to deliver services bilingually.

Enabling patients to use their preferred language helps them to communicate more effectively and confidently, improving both the patient experience and the clinical outcomes. Every member of staff can help to facilitate the use of the Welsh language within a quality health service. This e-learning package illustrates how Welsh speakers, Welsh learners and non Welsh speakers can all facilitate the delivery of bilingual care services.

The e-learning package introduces the Welsh Language and the importance of delivering bilingual services. The package enables staff to assess how they currently deliver Welsh language services, to identify where improvements can be made and to develop an action plan for their own work area. The package also provides a basic introduction to the use of a few simple Welsh words and phrases, that can be used to open conversations with Welsh speaking patients and colleagues.

The package can be used with the Learning Industries e-Learning Administration System to provide learner management, user tracking and recorded assessment or can be packaged for delivery in third-party SCORM-compliant Learning Management Systems.
