New Dignity and Respect e-Learning Package
Learning Industries have been working with Hywel Dda Local Health Board, with input from the Royal College of Nursing, to develop a new Dignity and Respect e-Learning package.
The e-learning package aims to help healthcare staff to understand the importance of providing care with dignity and respect; to illustrate how dignity can be promoted or diminished within the care system; and to guide staff to identify areas where improvements can be made.
The package is centred on a 10 Point Dignity Challenge Toolkit, developed by Hywel Dda Health Board. The Dignity Challenge is designed to help staff to provide services in a dignified way; to assist managers in developing services that support dignified care; and to ensure that the public are aware of the standards of care that they should expect.
Each Dignity Challenge is outlined and illustrated with patient stories. Examples of good practice are provided and the user then is asked to consider how the challenge is currently embedded and may be further implemented in their own professional practice or work area.
The e-learning package incorporates a range of scenarios and case studies to illustrate both good and bad practice and includes videos describing patient experiences of dignity and respect within the healthcare system.
The Dignity and Respect e-Learning package is currently being launched within Hywel Dda Health Board. The roll-out is supported by the use of a user evaluation which will enable Dignity leads within the Health Board the delivery of the e-learning and the progress of the wider dignity initiative. Initial user feedback has been positive and the wider application of the package across NHS Wales is now being considered.
