Mental Health Act e-Learning

5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust launches a new Mental Health Act e-Learning package.

Learning Industries have been working with 5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust to develop a Mental Health Act e-Learning package, which is now being rolled out within the Trust.

The Mental Health Act 1983 is the legislation governing the formal detention and care of mentally disordered people in hospital. It is essential that mental health professionals have a sound knowledge of the most commonly used 'Sections' and procedures; comply with the Act and adhere to the associated Code of Practice.

The e-learning package covers key concepts used within the Mental Health Act including, the use of Sections, detention and treatment of patients under the MHA, the Nearest Relative, professional roles and responsibilities, and appeals processes.

The package details the Sections, documentation and processes involved in the compulsory admission of civil patients (Part II); the detention of criminal (forensic) patients (Part III); the compulsory treatment of patients (Part IV) and treatment of patients under Community Treatment Orders (CTOs).
