Major Incident Awareness e-Learning Roll Out
The Major Incident Awareness e-Learning package, developed in partnership with Aneurin Bevan Health Board, is now being updated and adapted for all Health Boards with Wales. The roll out of the package is being supported by the Welsh Government.
NHS organisations must plan and be ready for any major incident which might potentially pose a threat to the health or the community or involve large numbers of casualties. Such incidents cannot typically be dealt with within the routine operation of the organisation and require special arrangements and the coordination of services.
The Major Incident Awareness e-Learning package provides training on an organisation’s planned responses and arrangements for dealing with major incidents, large-scale accidents or emergencies.
The package described different types of emergencies and illustrates the major incident process. The package defines roles and responsibilities and the function of hospitals and other emergency service providers in the event of a major incident. The module includes training on the management of chemical, biological, radiation and other contamination incidents.
Learning Industries are now working with Emergency Planning leads from each of the NHS Wales Health Boards to produce individual versions of the package detailing the specific local arrangements within each region.
